Dispelling the myths…

1. You appear to concentrate on just MMA resin products. Why is this ?

We have many years of experience in installing different types of industrial flooring systems and it is our belief that MMA resin products offer outstanding versatility and due to our wide range of aesthetic and textured finishes can be installed almost anywhere.

In areas where we cannot install Degafloor® products, then we utilise products from other leading suppliers.

2. I’ve heard that MMA products have a distinctive smell. Could this taint products ?

MMA resin products do have a distinctive odour. Taint is a controversial subject on which many misleading comments have been made. In effect, all reactive resins (including epoxies and polyurethanes) can taint products, the key questions are ‘for how long ?’ and ‘how can you control it?’.

All reactive resins will release gases as part of the chemical reaction that is the curing process. Thus, the faster the cure time, the lower the risk of taint. As Degafloor® products cure both physically and chemically in just two hours, our products carry the lowest ‘real’ taint risk.

The key to odour and hence taint control is effective ventilation and project management. Ideally, resin floors should only be installed when a facility is closed or ‘out of production’. However, in reality this is often difficult, if not impossible. Our vast experience means that we can install in facilities that cannot meet these stipulations as long as strict control processes are adhered to.

3. Can you supply anti microbial / bacterial additives ?

Degafloor® have chosen not to market these additives. This is based on extensive experience and research evidence that is freely available on the internet. Our suggestion is to review the evidence available before specifying additives that once in the floor cannot be removed.

The best way to control antibacterial growth is to employ a comprehensive and regular cleaning regime, something that we are happy to advise on.

4. In your literature, you state that your systems are anti-slip but so do all your competitors. Is there really a difference ?

The Degafloor® FB system has been designed specifically to be anti-slip at the extremes of full production conditions. The Health and Safety Executive states that a coefficient of variation factor of 0.4 should be the minimum acceptable level of slip resistance. Our FB system achieves a level of at least 0.42 when covered in vegetable oil and 0.72 when wet. These results are exceptional and we would welcome the opportunity to demonstrate the benefits of this to potential customers in a back to back test against any of our competitors.

5. How easy are your systems to repair / refurbish ?

Each layer in a Degafloor® system bonds chemically to the next creating a truly monolithic floor. To refurbish our systems, the surface need only be lightly abraded, following which a partial system can be installed (depending on customer requirements) and be ready again for full use within 2 hours of completion.
