Swansea’s premier nightclub, Play, called in RESYN to help with a refurbishment project to transform the clubs dance floor to provide an attractive yet durable finish.
Play nightclub, awarded Nightclub of the Year by the British Nightclub Industry, has three distinctive rooms all designed to create different themes. The club, which is commonly visited by celebrities and VIPs, needed a flooring solution to complement the surrounding décor. Durability was also high on the agenda, as the existing floor had worn through in places revealing bare concrete.
Upon discussions with Play Nightclub it was agreed that the Degafloor Flake system, in chosen white with pearlescent and silver flakes, would provide the glamorous appearance that was required. With slips and trips a concern, RESYN specified the Flake system with glass beads to enhance the slip resistance, without compromising the aesthetics. The resin system, which provides outstanding durability, will ensure that the floor can withstand the high footfall environment for many years to come.
The venue, which is open four nights out of the week, required a fast fitting solution to ensure that club opening times were not disrupted. RESYN completed the preparation and installation within 2 days allowing the club to open as usual on Wednesday. The result revealed a stylish, eye-catching design, which set off the adjacent blue finish creating the glamorous image required.

Laying a large floor in a business during a tight window, with general day today operations still continuing around the install team sounded a heady task with numerous opportunities for conflict and delay.
To add additional pressure, our opening function after laying was a TV advertising campaign launch for the city of Swansea, with a dignitary list covering major business and government figures up to and including MP’s, and Welsh Assembly First Minister Rhodri Morgan.
The National flooring team arrived early, maintained a high standard of cleanliness through out their site time, worked amiably around our day staff, discussed and informed management through each stage of procedure, completed ahead of schedule after removing all traces of their presence from the building. In a day of jobs to a price, and job done, lets get out as quickly as possible tradesmen, it was cheery to have someone work with pride and pace, respect and leave no burdens, dirt, supplies or problems.
The finish and detailing looks excellent, with depth and no apparent wear; this is a very busy high volume premium venue, on a daily basis, this floor returns to an as new look after each clean.”
