RESYN to the rescue with a slip-resistant floor finish

The Fire Service had previously used RESYN services at other stations and was well aware of the benefits that an MMA resin floor can provide.  They asked for the same slip-resistant floor finish solution for Aylesbury Fire Station.

The existing epoxy resin flooring system, which had been installed just 2 years previously, had become worn and presented an uneven texture, which created a potential slip hazard and made it almost impossible to clean. Following a comprehensive site survey RESYN specified the Degafloor FB System. The system, which cures fully within just 2 hours of installation, creates an extremely hard-wearing, impervious and slip-resistant floor finish.

The storage of appliances is extremely important and one of the biggest problems faced by the Fire Service is undertaking refurbishment projects which cause the appliances to be left out of the bays for a long period. Due to the quick-curing nature of MMA resins, RESYN were able to carry out the installation in phases over three days. Within just 2 hours of installation, the 13-tonne appliances were driven back into the bays to be stored overnight.

Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service who are in the process of creating a uniform station chose the same finish as previously installed at Amersham Fire Station. On each of the bays, tyre runways were installed in black with the remainder of the areas in red. Yellow boxes were then painted on top to act as an easy spot zone to ensure the drivers stopped in the correct position.

As a precautionary measure, RESYN installed protective polythene sheeting around the work area to prevent any dust ingress to the adjacent offices where sensitive equipment is installed which in turn allowed the crew to continue with their daily routine.

Rob Spearing of Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue commented, “

Until RESYN gave us advice on their flooring products we had been having ongoing problems with trying to identify a floor coating that would prove reliable. RESYN also understood our needs as a Fire Service to keep the appliance bays operational whilst the work was being carried out and worked closely with us to accommodate these needs.”
