The Church Inn is a well known venue nestled in the heart of the jewellery quarter in Birmingham. The site has been in existence for over 100 years and recently underwent a renovation to transform the inside of pub into the new Headquarters of the Soul Food Project. The venue boasts a distinctive roof terrace that overlooks its surroundings where patrons can dine alfresco or enjoy a leisurely drink. It was decided a concrete substrate did not match the client’s specification as they were looking for a more vibrant finish. As part of the refurbishment the client was looking for a slip resistant yet aesthetically pleasing outdoor seating area that was in keeping with the rest of the “New Orleans” inspired pub.

Birmingham based Interior Designer Newman Gauge had previously worked with RESYN on numerous projects within the leisure industry. Having seen the benefits that RESYN could provide they recommended their services to Wedgewood Construction & Joinery UK & International Ltd, the contractor responsible for overseeing the whole project.

Having discussed the project requirements with all stakeholders involved in the refurbishment it was decided that a system from Degafloor, which was designed to be installed externally, would be the ideal solution.

The cold applied resin system offers outstanding durability and flexibility. It guarantees to chemically bond to the existing substrate to create a watertight bunded finish ensuring that excess water is not released to the areas below. A fleece membrane was installed to the floor and the upstands prior to the resin application to help reinforce the substrate and assist with the impermeable finish.

The main body of the resin was broadcast with a mix of red, white and black coloured aggregates to create a slip resistant finish. The textured finish will maintain its slip resistant properties even in wet conditions ensuring the area is fully complaint with health and safety standards.

RESYN have extensive experience in the leisure industry and are therefore well aware of the importance to complete refurbishment projects swiftly to avoid disruption to both the pub and any neighbouring premises. The installation was completed within just two days which included all

The re-opening weekend attracted many customers, due to the nice weather people could sit outside in the terrace area and enjoy the views.

Mick Walker from Wedgwood Construction commented “I would like to thank RESYN for their hard work and ease of communication. The floor installed looks great and fits in with our requirements. I would have no hesitation in working them again as they delivered exactly what was promised.”
